the naked truth: Nayer on her name, her drive to succeed, and lessons learned from Pitbull
On the set of Nayer's new video, the singer/model talks about her influences and future projects.
Tell us about your first name. Is it short for something or given to you for a special reason?
My name is Arabic, someone once told me it meant sunshine but I never confirmed that! It almost feels like everything happens for a reason and at first what seemed to me as a weird name was really perfect for this industry and my own identity!
Can you tell us about your transition from modeling to singing-songwriting?
It was never really a transition. I did some modeling pictures in the past for fun. I've always pursued a singing career. I'm a performer, it's what I love to do!
What advice do you have for talented models who would like to make that transition?
Anything with hard work and dedication is possible! The key is patience and never giving up on your dreams! Persistence!
What have you learned from Pitbull?
I've learned that as an artist it's not [about] making it, but [also about] maintaining it! [I've also learned to have] patience in the moments necessary and never give up. Fight for what you believe in.
Do you see modeling in your future or will you be dedicating yourself solely to music?
In my future I see Nayer singing and performing. That's always been my dream, but I'm open to any opportunities and endorsements. I don't want to be just a singer, but also a businesswoman and build an empire.
Who are your biggest musical influences?
My biggest musical influences are Celia Cruz, Gloria Estefan, Mariah Carey and Celine Dion!
What upcoming collaborations/songs do you have in the works?
It’s too soon to say but there are a couple of things in the works. Being signed and able to work with a producer like Redone has been an amazing journey and there’s more to come! He gets NAYER and the vision!
