  • Federal authorities say that a group of identity thieves has made billions of dollars by stealing the identities of Puerto Rican citizens. The scammers have been using the Social Security numbers of Puerto Ricans to file fake tax returns and cashing the tax refunds. Puerto Ricans do not have to pay federal income tax.

  • Should an African-American singer endorse fried chicken? Fans of Mary J. Blige don’t think so and they voiced their anger on social media just hours after the first spots featuring Blige promoting Burger King's chicken wrap hit the air. The food chain has since pulled the commercial.
  • Mexican President Felipe Calderón has asked the Obama Administration to reinstate a U.S. ban on assault weapons: "I know that if we don't stop the traffic of weapons into Mexico… then we are never going to be able to stop the violence in Mexico or stop a future turning of those guns upon the U.S." (via Foreign Policy)

  • A 43-year-old man is under arrest after killing seven students and wounding three others at Oikos University, a small Christian college in Oakland, California. Police Chief Howard Jordan said the man was a disgruntled former student: "This was a calculated, cold-blooded execution in the classroom."
